Difference between ABS material and PVC material
Difference between ABS material and PVC material
PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
Typical Applications:
Water supply pipes, home pipes, house siding, business machine housing, electronics packaging, medical equipment, food packaging.
Injection molding conditions:
Drying: usually do not require drying.
Melting temperature: 185 ~ 205 ℃
Mold temperature: 20 ~ 50 ℃
Injection pressure: can be as large 1500bar
Holding pressure: can be as large 1000bar
Injection speed: To avoid material degradation, the general use of injection speed considerably.
Runners and Gates: All conventional gate can be used. If the processing of smaller components, it is preferable to use needle-type gate or sneak into the gate; for thicker parts, it is best to use the fan gate. Tip gate or sneak into the gate of the minimum diameter should be 1mm; fan gate thickness can not be less than 1mm.
Chemical and physical properties:
Rigid PVC is one of the most widely used plastic materials. PVC material is a non-crystalline material. PVC material in actual use, often by adding stabilizers, lubricants, auxiliary processing agents, pigments, impact agents and other additives. PVC material is not easily flammable, high strength, resistance to climate variability and excellent geometric stability. PVC oxidant, reductant and acid has a very strong resistance. However, it can be concentrated oxidizing acids such as concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid corrosion and does not apply to contact with aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons occasions. PVC melting temperature in the processing is a very important process parameters, if this parameter incorrectly will cause the material to decompose problems. Very poor flow characteristics of PVC, very narrow scope of the process. Especially high molecular weight PVC material more difficult to process (this material is usually added to improve the flow characteristics lubricant), it is often used are low molecular weight PVC material. PVC contraction rate is very low, typically 0.2 to 0.6%.
Applicable market: a broader product in the working environment is harsher conditions, such as the arctic environment of minus 30-40 ℃, at present, the application of more countries and regions in Eastern Europe (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine) and North America (the United States, Canada)
ABS( Acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene copolymer)
Typical Applications:
Automotive (dashboard, door tools, wheel covers, mirror boxes, etc.), refrigerators, high-strength tools (hair dryers, blenders, food processing machines, lawn mowers, etc.), telephone housings, typewriter keyboard and recreational vehicles such as golf carts and jet skis and other vehicles.
Injection molding conditions:
Drying: ABS material is hygroscopic, it is required prior to processing by drying. Recommended drying conditions for at least 80 ~ 90 ℃ dried for 2 hours. Temperature of the material should ensure that less than 0.1%.
Melting temperature: 210 ~ 280 ℃; Recommended temperature: 245 ℃.
Mold temperature: 25 ~ 70 ℃. (Mold temperature will affect the plastic finish, the lower temperature results in a lower finish).
Injection pressure: 500 ~ 1000bar.
Injection speed: Medium speed.
Chemical and physical properties:
ABS is synthesized from acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene of three monomers. Each of the monomers having different characteristics: acrylonitrile high strength, thermal stability and chemical stability; butadiene has the toughness and impact resistance properties; styrene easy processing, high-quality finish and high strength. Morphologically, ABS is an amorphous material. Polymerization of the three monomers produces a terpolymer having two phases, a styrene - acrylonitrile continuous phase, dispersed phase of polybutadiene rubber. The properties of ABS depends on the ratio of the monomers and the molecular structure of the two phases. This allows great flexibility in product design, and the resulting market hundreds of different quality ABS material. These different quality materials offer different characteristics, such as moderate to high impact resistance, from low to high finish and high heat distortion. ABS material with superior ease of processing, appearance, low creep and excellent dimensional stability and high impact strength.
Applicable Market: ABS with its high strength and stability of the markets identified more popular in Europe, concentrated in Poland, Italy, Spain, Romania and other places.
